On Thursday, the 9th of December, a small, injured kitten was found outside the bank where my mother works. I picked him up from there and took him to the vet. His first exam showed one broken leg, one maybe broken leg, a wound that needed stitches, worms, and intestinal parasites. He weighed just over a pound and is estimated to be 8 weeks old.
Now called Thursday because of the day he was found, he spent the night in the hospital and the next day was bandaged, stitched, and neutered. Luckily only one leg was broken and he now sports a cast longer than he is. He spent one more night in the hospital and I picked him up on Saturday.
Thursday is feral, and unaccustomed to humans. He hisses and spits and runs away, but if caught and pet he begins to purr. I am fostering him for about a week, but he cannot stay with me not only due to my severe cat allergy but also the fact that I am not allowed cats where I live. I am working to socialize him a little each day, I don't want to overwhelm him. I try to show him he is safe and has nothing to fear. I am hoping he realizes this soon.
Thursday needs a good home where he will be an indoor-only cat. My mother will keep him if he is not adopted, but she already has 3 cats. The reason Thursday is sequestered with me for some time is so he can get to feeling better and stronger before he has to face down 3 adult cats. Thursday does not yet know how to clean himself and, sadly, is nothing like a normal kitten. If you dangle yarn in front of him, he hisses at it instead of batting at it.
Thursday's hospital bills to this point are $327.00 and change. Many generous people have made contributions to his care and we appreciate it so much. The money goes not only to medical needs but to litter and food as well.
Tomorrow Thursday gets the bandages on his cast changed. He has been eating very well and I am hoping he will show some weight gain tomorrow.
