A little over two weeks
And lil' Mojo's caretaker has been pretty sick for the past few days. He had an appointment today though, and got a cast/splint change and his first set of shots. He has gained 2 pounds and last night played around with a straw wrapper on my floor, which I have a couple short, grainy videos of. It shows him hopping around with that cast on just like it's not there. In another couple weeks he has x-rays to see if the cast can come off, and of course more shots. He is getting prettier-excuse me-more handsome-every day. Here he is in a bed Grandma bought him (of course he still prefers to sleep behind the toilet:
And, the grainy videos as promised.....second video has more entertainment value, but is of worse quality as far as lighting. On the second video, he knew I was watching him so hopped away, little stinker.

Playfulness emerges with pictures!
Last night I brought Mojo to bed with me while I was on the computer and snacking on smarties candies. I thought maybe he would be interested in the crinkly wrapper, so I set a couple near him and he looked for a minute, and then batted them around. I really think he would have chased them if all four legs were working! He did manage to pull off some adorable poses last night....

New range to roam
Had a vet visit today for a re-wrapping. Three more weeks to go then more x-rays and hopefully it will have healed fine. I kitten-proofed my bedroom, which has a door to the bathroom where he is sequestered, so that he can come in here and move around a bit more. I feel so bad for him having to be stuck in one room, but when I let him out the little stinker gets himself into potentially harmful situations so now at least he can roam into my room. I'm sitting here now, waiting to see if he will come in or stay in the bathroom.....

Day 9 Picture
The unexpected vet visit...and a new name
First, the name issue. A "you'd have to be there" story led a friend and I to decide quite definitely that calling this kitty Mojo was just perfect. So, Thursday is now Mojo. I will keep the blog title the same though.
Today's visit to the vet ($55) got him a nice clean cast and some medicine for tummy issues. On their advice, and I don't know why I didn't think of it before, I wrapped and taped clear plastic around Mojo's cast. Worked perfect; when he got it messy I just cut it off and applied a new wrap of plastic.
No other news on the Mojo front right now.

Bloody mess
I prepared to attempt to clean his cast more today. I got the SOS pad and some paper towels and latex gloves. Picked up Thurs and he was mellow for awhile, then got irritated and, well, made it known that he was irritated. The spots I scrubbed at didn't show much improvement anyhow, and I'd have to hold him in increasingly awkward positions to clean the whole thing since he managed to get the poo ALL over.
I wondered how that happened, since the last two days he has had solid poops. In the litter box I found a great deal of bloody diarrhea. So.......that plus nasty cast I can't scrub clean equals a trip to the vet today.
I believe, at this point, that he is hiding under things because he feels vulnerable with the useless leg. So, until that cast comes off, I am only letting him out of "his room" when he is in my sight, like curled up next to me in bed while we bond and play games on king.com. And then it is back to his safe space. Nowhere to hide in the bathroom. Probably should have gone with this all along, but I wanted him to feel confident and explore the area. Time to get ready to go.....

No pictures, just a mangled thumb :(
Unless you want to see pictures of my swollen, puncture-wounded thumb, which I am sure you don't. Thursday hid from me all day and was none too pleased when I finally found him. He acted like he had never seen me before. Usually he hisses, then is fine when I pick him up. Not this time. Plus when I wasn't home today to assist him in the little box, he got a significant amount of poopy on his cast which I scrubbed at til he looked ready to go cujo on me. Will work on that more a little later. As for now, no cuddles, he is sequestered in the bathroom, a closed but big enough space with his food and litter and a bed for him.
Well, he wasn't enitrely without cuddles, I held him as I gave him his medication and some head and ear scritches, but my thumb was dripping blood on the floor so had to rush mr. grumpys snuggles.

Day 7: still learning to trust
I don't know why Thurs hisses at me when I find him in one of his many hiding spots and retrieve him, because when I hold him close he is very calm and purrs and is even very good about taking his medicine. It's almost as if he doesn't recognize me until I have him in my arms. Also, as he lies here beside me tonight in my bed on a bath rug I folded up for him, he batted playfully at a fluffy blanket with a floral pattern in front of him. He only batted at it a couple times, but it is the first "playful" thing I have seen him do. I don't want him jumping around with the cast on, but when it comes off I'll have to get some toys for him. Anyway, today's pics......
"Yes, I'm cleaning myself. I know, it is only like the second time I have done it but those wet wipes of yours are seriously cold and inadequate. Now, do you REALLY need to preserve this moment in pictures?"

Video!
Cozy in a people bed. Sorry about the quality, used a camera and it's not very bright in here. Also, the random videos that pop up after this one are not ours, just a photobucket.com advertisement.
Hide and Seek
Heard Thursday meowing but couldn't find him. After looking for about a half an hour, I reached under the couch, again, as it is one of his favorite hiding spots. Felt something attack my hand from above. A-ha! Somehow he managed to get up into the inside of the couch and was in the springs. I turned the couch over and he was quite angry and put up a bit of a fight as I extricated him from the springs. This ones gonna be trouble....
Day 5, Vet visit for check up, etc.
Went to the vet for a cast/wrapping/whatever they call it change. They said the leg is still very weak (of course, it has only been wrapped up for a week) but otherwise things are going well. ($30.00) Next appointment for the same thing is next week. I am thinking of changing his name to Trump, as I'm sure by the time he gets on the proper prescription flea medication we will hit the $400 mark. Someday, he will stop hissing at me when I first reach out to him, I'm sure. I can imagine he feels pretty mistrustful, it seems humans can't make up their minds whether to feed and pet him or poke and prod him and remove his marbles.
Here he is, home from the vet. Left him in the carrier and found a hideaway spot to leave it in, it can be his little den of refuge. I think the look on his face sums up his feelings towards humans pretty well right now.

Staking his claim
Last post today, I swear!
Just had to report that Thursday got off the couch, walked to the middle of the living room floor, layed down, and gave himself a bath. Out in the open, no hiding. Another milestone. Woohoo!

Late night TV time
Milestone acheived!
After I held his tail up and out of the way while he was in the litter box with no hissing, and gave him his medication, I placed him next to me on the couch. He is not freaking out when I move or get up, and is now sleeping and purring hard. This is the first time he has slept next to me.
Hide and Seek
After being quite angry about me cleaning poop off of his cast, Thursday took off to hide somewhere a few hours ago. I let him be and figured I'd find him later.
Just found him under a chair (a low to the ground antique barrel style, so he is well hidden). Put a dish of food nearby, but he isn't interested in coming out of hiding quite yet....

Thursday's Story
On Thursday, the 9th of December, a small, injured kitten was found outside the bank where my mother works. I picked him up from there and took him to the vet. His first exam showed one broken leg, one maybe broken leg, a wound that needed stitches, worms, and intestinal parasites. He weighed just over a pound and is estimated to be 8 weeks old.
Now called Thursday because of the day he was found, he spent the night in the hospital and the next day was bandaged, stitched, and neutered. Luckily only one leg was broken and he now sports a cast longer than he is. He spent one more night in the hospital and I picked him up on Saturday.
Thursday is feral, and unaccustomed to humans. He hisses and spits and runs away, but if caught and pet he begins to purr. I am fostering him for about a week, but he cannot stay with me not only due to my severe cat allergy but also the fact that I am not allowed cats where I live. I am working to socialize him a little each day, I don't want to overwhelm him. I try to show him he is safe and has nothing to fear. I am hoping he realizes this soon.
Thursday needs a good home where he will be an indoor-only cat. My mother will keep him if he is not adopted, but she already has 3 cats. The reason Thursday is sequestered with me for some time is so he can get to feeling better and stronger before he has to face down 3 adult cats. Thursday does not yet know how to clean himself and, sadly, is nothing like a normal kitten. If you dangle yarn in front of him, he hisses at it instead of batting at it.
Thursday's hospital bills to this point are $327.00 and change. Many generous people have made contributions to his care and we appreciate it so much. The money goes not only to medical needs but to litter and food as well.
Tomorrow Thursday gets the bandages on his cast changed. He has been eating very well and I am hoping he will show some weight gain tomorrow.
