Cats, Rats, and Math

Help Momma! It's gonna get me and eatz me! (with Evie the fearless rat, who approached Mojo til he nearly fell off the bed)

Cats instinctively know when 1. You suck at algebra, and 2. You have studied too long and are wasting valuable belly-rub time.

And......the cast is off!

Well, Mojo's leg is healed and his cast is off. He had a soft bandage on it to provide support for a leg he hasn't been able to bend for 7 weeks, but he chewed most of that off and so I just cut it off the rest of the way on day 3. He is a bit wobbly, definitely needs to build strength and coordination but wobbly or not, he still runs and jumps all over the place. He is just the softest thing, I swear he is make of velvet.
Here is a pic of him smiling.....

Jan 12

Mojo's last vet visit did not bring the "cast-away" and x-ray that I was expecting. Instead, they examined him, re-splinted his leg, and made an appointment for two weeks, when they will do the x-ray which will hopefully show a healed bone. Poor Moj probably thinks his cast (splint) is a permanent part of his body. But, they said in two weeks it will hit the six week mark, so it should be as healed as it's gonna get by then. The way this little guy bounces around here, it has got to be healed.

It is amazing how he has come out of his shell, at least with me. He will chase and attack anything. A ball, a sock, a balled-up taco bell wrapper that I toss to the floor; he is just a wild and crazy boy. But also a lover and a snuggler. When I tell him it's time for bed he gets up beside my pillow and whenever I reach over at night, there he is.

The vet says he may never walk normally, which doesn't seem to be a problem for him right now, and I doubt it will be in the future. Besides, he hardly ever walks anyway; he runs wildly from here to there until he finally collapses on the bed next to me, squeakily-meowing at me if I take too long to pet him. Mouthy! Yes, he is an assertive little man. I don't dare fail to spend too long reading or typing between head scratching and petting or I get an earful.

Braver and Floofier

Mojo is discovering that, as a kitten, the world is his toy box. Everything gets batted at all over my room and bathroom as if he has no cast at all. He is now bravely sitting on the end of my bed closest to my rat's cage, whereas before one noise from them would send him scurrying to the safety of hiding behind the toilet.
Tonight for the first time he took it upon himself to leave the bathroom (where he still hangs out, probably likes the cool tile floor) and jump up on my bed. I was surprised to see him there when I came in. The little stinker can jump with a cast on! Animals are so adaptable.
He is getting more assertive with me. If I am petting him and stop, after a few moments I get a scratchy squeaky noise from him. I have never heard him meow, so he may be the squeaking type. Oh, now he is trying to climb up the drawer unit the rat cage is on. I gave him an assist with a step ladder and he is now watching them run in the wheel. That sound used to terrify him. Oh, this ones gonna be a handful...... Ok, here are the pictures, now apparently Mojo is like those people who react to photos by closing their eyes. I took ten of him and all.....eyes closed. But you can definitely see the changes in him.
